1981 - I Want My MTV

MTV, originally an initialism of Music Television, was an American cable TV channel based in New York City that launched on August 1, 1981. The original purpose of the channel was to play music videos guided by on-air hosts known as VJs. Believe it or not, in the 80's this channel actually played music!  "Video Killed the Radio Star" was the first video to be aired.
